Noi se level can be quantified and qualified based on sound characteristics such as intensity, type of spectrum, duration and distribution of the noise exposure during one's working hours.Objective: To assess noise spectrum and the audiometric configuration of workers. Materials and Methods:Contemporary cross-sectional cohort carried out in the Federal DistrictBrazil. We did an environmental analysis (spectral analysis) of the noise in companies from different industries, with audiological assessment of 347 workers. Results:The spectral analysis revealed peaks at different frequencies for each industry investigated (8 kHz-metallurgical, 4 kHz-stone Works and 2 kHz-wood works). We noticed that the frequencies of 14 kHz and 16 kHz had significant differences between the various industries, with a greater prevalence of the metallurgical. Conclusion:The use of noise pressure measuring device, coupled to a frequency analyzer and high frequency audiometric assessment yielded an early detection of hearing damage, helping better organize preventive measures. OBJETIVO: descrever os níveis de pressão sonora a que os trabalhadores estão expostos durante a jornada de trabalho em ambulâncias e verificar possível associação do uso da sirene, das condições do trânsito e do período do dia em que foi realizada a medição. MÉTODOS: trata-se de estudo transversal descritivo dividido em duas etapas. Na primeira etapa foram realizadas medições do nível de pressão sonora na cabine da ambulância durante as viagens de emergência, e investigação da percepção do motorista sobre as condições do trânsito e uso da sirene. Na segunda etapa foi realizada análise da exposição de um trabalhador ao ruído durante a jornada de trabalho. Os dados foram analisados estatisticamente. RESULTADOS: a média do nível sonoro contínuo equivalente durante 12 viagens de emergência foi superior a 85 dB(A), valor acima do permitido pela Norma Regulamentadora 15, sendo que o ruído elevado esteve associado às condições do trânsito e uso da sirene (p<0,05). A dose de ruído em porcentagem durante os plantões de um motorista variou de 17.51% a 155.68%, ultrapassando o limite preconizado e também teve influência das condições do trânsito e uso da sirene. CONCLUSÃO: os níveis de pressão sonora a que os trabalhadores estão expostos durante a jornada de trabalho em ambulâncias são elevados e ultrapassam o que é estabelecido pela norma Brasileira. Dessa forma, verifica-se a necessidade do desenvolvimento de ações preventivas voltadas à saúde desses profissionais já que elevados níveis de ruído podem interferir negativamente na saúde auditiva e qualidade de vida dos trabalhadores.

Although hearing protectors are defined as a temporary solution, they are often widely employed as the only measure against noise exposure. However, it is also known that unless workers wear the hearing protector continuously, their effectiveness will be very low. In this regard, there are some surveys that show that workers do not always wear their protectors properly and consistently while exposed to noise. The purpose of this article is to present the results of an investigation about noise perception, relating with noise exposure in working environment and the hearing protectors' use. Was consider that noise perceptions effects can support minimizing risk and improve industries safety polities. The study sample was carry out in 5 metallurgical industries and 243 workers from Parana -Brazil. The survey data was collected and analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The questionnaire results showed that workers are exposed at high noise levels, in increasing risk of developing noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). About the hearing protection use, it can be evaluated that the use is more effective in companies with a higher level of noise exposure. The perception of risk plays a fundamental role, which predicts the use of hearing protectors; therefore, the perception of the work environment, regarding the lower or higher risk, can be directly linked to the use of hearing protectors. The companies with more rigorous safety procedures also indicate a greater report of effective use of hearing protectors.
