Show more

“…12 E. tenax is another species that can produce pseudomyiasis, and even though only one larva was found, human cases have been reported in the Andean Patagonian region. 4 Although investigations have indicated the importance of helminth egg distribution by flies, 5 this role has not been corroborated either in composting plants or in sewage plants. 3 Likewise, birds and other insects feed on Diptera adults and larvae; hence, they also constitute potential vectors for various diseases.…”

“…Poor socioeconomic status and poor hygiene are risk factors. The water supply is a possible contamination source (191). The female flies may oviposit the eggs around the mouth of comatose and psychiatric patients, and any patient who sleeps or keeps the mouth open is also prone to gastrointestinal infestation.…”

“…Garcia-Zapata et al, 2005;Mumcuoglu et al, 2005). It has been suggested that humans usually acquire gastrointestinal myiasis by ingesting E. tenax eggs or early-stage maggots in contaminated food or water (Kun et al, 1998;Aguilera et al, 1999;Whish-Wilson, 2000). Additionally, contamination may occur as the larvae enter the urinary tract (Korzets et al, 1993;Mumcuoglu et al, 2005).…”
