Show more

“…One possible explanation is the fact that the community of Capiarara was comprised of unpaved streets, which during dry seasons a great deal of suspended particles of soil are observed. In a heavily industrialized city of Cubatão, Brazil, the mean PbH concentration in children (aged 1 to 10 years) was 7.25 ± 8.51 μg/g, ranging from 2.5 to 71.4 μg/g (Santos-Filho et al 1993). Zaida et al (2007) in an investigation with children from 0 to 12 months from the city of Marrakech, Morocco observed a PbH average value of 6.6 μg/g, which were associated with environmental contamination of soil, water and food.…”

“…Moreira and Moreira (2004a,b) reviewed and concluded that heavy metals like lead have implications on the human body and health, but there is still insufficient information on the mechanisms of action that account for such toxicity. Lead is toxic for humans (Sadão,2002), especially for children (Jarosinska and Rogan, 2003; Nriagu et al, 1997; Santos Filho et al, 1993) and populations that are occupationally exposed (Kham et al, 2010; Prista et al, 2006). This fact as it was confirmed in a survey carried out by technicians of the State Health Secretary and the Municipal Health secretary of Barau, São Paulo, Brazil (Paula et al, 2006).…”
