Hábitos alimentares, infecção natural e distribuição de triatomíneos domiciliados na região central do Brasil

Abstract: RESUMO: Apresentam-se as informações obtidas no inquérito triatomí-neo levado a efeito na região central do Brasil. Show more

“…Various reports of T. sordida and T. guasayana in human environments in Southern Cone countries (Forattini et al 1982, Carcavallo et al 1988, Noireau et al 1997 make them vector candidates and this should encourage more studies on these species. With regard to the vectorial control of Chagas disease, the peridomicile vectors have a special importance due to their role in these processes and the re-infestation of housing during entomological surveillance.…”

“…A study on T. cruzi reservoirs in DF showed that specimens of D. albiventris are responsible for maintaining enzootic circulation of the parasite in the region, where 33% of these mammals were infected 5 . However, P. megistus has varied feeding habits, also feeding on birds, dogs, cats, rodents, cattle, goats, pigs, and humans 17,27,30 . Compared with other species such as T. sordida, P. megistus presents higher preferences for human blood, increasing the risk of transmission of T. cruzi by this vector 30 .…”

“…Instead, greater emphasis is here given to the use of completely wild or essentially sylvatic bugs in the process of invading human homes. These insects found in human dwellings over the last 2-3 decades have not so far settled there for good (Forattini et al,11,12 ) and will probably continue to have the characteristics of sylvatic insects for many years to come, depending mostly on the intensity of the industrialization occurring in the endemic regions under control. This is also the reason for the use of the term "essentially sylvatic" when analyzing the responsiveness of these vector species to infections by T. cruzi stocks.…”
