Abstract: As emissões otoacústicas evocadas transientes (EOAET) têm sido a técnica mais empregada nas triagens auditivas neonatais. Show more

“…There was a general trend for the right ear response to be greater. This "advantage" relative to the left ear has also been observed in other studies 7,20 . It has been argued that the difference in TEOAE records between the ears is associated with the right ear having a slight advantage in aural sensitivity.…”

“…Hearing loss is the most frequently found disorder in neonates, when compared to other disorders [7][8][9] . In our sample we had a prevalence of two neonates with hearing impairment confirmed for every 1,000 births, showing statistical rates similar to the ones found in the literature [4][5][6] (Table 3).…”

“…In order to do an early diagnosis, newborns at risk for hearing impairment or not must undergo NHS in their first 48 hours of life, or before hospital discharge 4,5,7 . The most employed and recommended technique for Neonatal Hearing Screening has been Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions, since it uses low intensity acoustic stimuli, involving a broad range of frequencies and for being fast -taking about one minute per ear 9 . BAEP aims at detecting mild to profound, conductive or sensorineural, uni or bilateral hearing losses.…”
