Retinopatia de Purtscher e Purtscher-like

Show more

“…From ocular fundoscopy, the retina is characterized by cotton-wool stains, edema and macula associated with superficial hemorrhage 7, 8. The consensus is that fatty emboli are formed and lead to arteriolar occlusion and consequently to infarction of the microvasculature in the retinal nerve fiber layer.…”

“…Flaviviruses are a family of enveloped, single-stranded RNA viruses that include a range of vector-borne human pathogens such as DENV, Zika virus, yellow fever virus, or Japanese and tick-borne encephalitis virus 31 . These viruses present a major health burden on a global scale, especially since climate change is expanding the range of virus-carrying mosquitoes previously contained predominantly to the tropical region 32,33 . DENV, in particular, is responsible for 390 million cases worldwide, 96 million of which are symptomatic 34 .…”

“…Purtscher's retinopathy was first described in 1910 by Otmar Purtscher as whitish lesions with hemorrhagic retinopathy associated with low visual acuity secondary to a fall (8) . From 1975 Inkles introduced the term Purtscher-like retinopathy to describe the same clinical feature in a case of pancreatitis with no history of previous trauma (8) . Ever since these terms are used to describe the fundus changes as peripapillary cotton wool spots, intraretinal hemorrhages and Purtscher fleckens.…”
