A redescription of Anomaloglossus praderioi (La Marca, 1998) (Anura: Aromobatidae: Anomaloglossinae), with description of its tadpole and call

Abstract: Anomaloglossus praderioi was originally described as Colostethus praderioi by E. La Marca in 1998 on the basis of two male specimens. The present paper provides a redescription of the species on the basis of new material from Maringma Tepui in Guyana and an additional specimen from Sierra de Lema in Venezuela. The redescription includes descriptions of the tadpole and vocalisation. Anomaloglossus praderioi is a medium-sized species mainly distinguished from its known congeners in having Fingers I, II and IV eq… Show more

“…Comparisons of external character states are based both on original descriptions and examination of museum specimens, including most type series (see Appendix for additional material examined). Examination of comparative type series sometimes revealed discrepancies (see Kok 2010;Kok et al 2013) between type specimens and original descriptions, therefore our diagnoses may differ from those usually proposed.…”

“…The temporal structure of the call differs markedly from that of congeneric species in the duration of the call. Anomaloglossus degranvillei (Marty & Gaucher 1999), A. surinamensis (Ouboter & Jairam 2012) and A. praderioi (Kok 2010) emit a single note at rates between 50 and 100 calls/min; A. beebei (Kok et al 2006a), A. tamacuarensis (Myers & Donnelly 1997) and A. kaiei (Kok et al 2006b) emit short series of pulses (4-5, 2, and 1-2 pulses/call, respectively); A. baeobatrachus (Marty & Gaucher 1999) and A. stepheni (Lima et al 2006;Martins 1989) emit short trills of 7-19 pulses and less than 1 s of duration. Anomaloglossus rufulus emits shorter (< 3 s) and regular trills with lower pulse rate (7 pulses/s) (Barrio-Amorós & Santos 2011).…”

“…Among dendrobatoids, data on labial teeth are available for Allobates granti (Kok et al, 2006), Anomaloglossus praderioi (La Marca, 1997) (Kok, 2010), and Ameerega flavopicta (Lutz, 1925) (Dias, Brandão & Grant, 2018), and we observed them in all examined specimens of S. erasmios , as well as in other Dendrobatidae larvae. We observed the presence of cusps in all examined dendrobatoids (Figure 8d) except S. erasmios (Figure 8c), making the absence an autapomorphy of that species (Figure 12a).…”
