This study estimated the nitrate and potassium concentration in the soil solution of drainage lysimeter using the mathematical models developed by Vogeler et al. (1996) and Muñoz-Carpena et al. (2005) and the computational model Hydrus-2D, while comparing the simulated and observed data using statistical parameters. The cultivar used for the study was ‘Prata Gorutuba’. The experimental plots were six lysimeters of drainage. Fertigation was performed weekly. The mathematical models developed by Vogeler et al. (1996) and Muñoz-Carpena et al. (2005) were used to determine the specific concentration of a given ion (Ci). The Hydrus software was used to simulate the dynamics of nutrients. The concentrations of nitrate and potassium in the soil solution were estimated by the model of Vogeler et al. (1996), adapted to the linear type CEw-Ci ratio and simulated by the Hydrus model, resulting in an acceptable characterization of the distribution of these nutrients.

The application of chemical substances to the soil together with little attention given to the possible environmental impacts, transformed the environment into a recipient of waste. The aim of this study was to simulate the movement of water and solutes (sodium and potassium together) using the STANMOD and HYDRUS-2D models in a typical Haplic Planosol under the application of wastewater via surface irrigation under different flow rates. The experiment was conducted in the laboratory by miscible displacement tests, first using columns with deformed soil under saturation and steady water flow conditions, at a rate of 11.7 cm 3 min-1 , to obtain transport parameters of sodium and potassium ions, and in the applied residual water, the values of 475 and 76.6 mg dm-3 , respectively. The transport parameters were estimated from the numerical adjustment of effluent distribution curves, using the STANMOD model. In a second step, the HYDRUS-2D model was applied to simulate the volumetric soil moisture distribution profiles, as well as the ion concentrations in the wet bulb. Considering the results obtained, we can see that there was considerable interaction between the solutes and the soil. The value of the delay parameter was higher for the sodium when compared to the potassium, reflecting its greater adsorption and the processes of exchange between the solute and the soil. The results suggested the need for adequate soil management in order to avoid future soil sodification and, in view of the application of HYDRUS-2D, it was verified that the model presented a satisfactory performance in the simulation of the displacement of the ions, after 1, 5 and 10 hours of wastewater application.

RESUMO:A preocupação com o destino de produtos químicos e água, aplicados ao solo, tem motivado vários pesquisadores a desenvolverem e aplicarem modelos teóricos, a fim de descrever os processos físicos envolvidos no transporte desses produtos no perfil do solo. Nesse sentido, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo aplicar o modelo HYDRUS-1D, bem como avaliar sua performance, em simulações do deslocamento do potássio e água (umidade do solo), em colunas segmentadas, preenchidas com dois tipos de solos tropicais, em condições não saturadas (Latossolo Vermelho--Amarelo e Nitossolo Vermelho). Os parâmetros de transporte do potássio foram obtidos por meio de curvas de distribuição de efluentes (Breakthrough Curves (BTC)). O desempenho do modelo foi avaliado com base nos seguintes parâmetros estatísticos: erro máximo, erro absoluto médio, raiz quadrada do erro médio normalizado, coeficiente de massa residual, coeficiente de determinação, eficiência e índice de concordância de Willmott. Diante dos resultados obtidos, pôde-se concluir que o modelo HYDRUS-1D foi eficiente nas simulações de deslocamento do potássio e da água, em relação aos dois materiais de solo estudados.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: transporte de contaminantes, lixiviação, modelagem computacional, HYDRUS-1D. This research aimed to evaluate the performance of the HYDRUS-1D software package to simulate water and potassium movement in segmented columns filled with two tropical soil types, a red-yellow Latosol (LVA) and a Nitosol (NV), during unsaturated flow conditions. The potassium transport parameters were estimated from observed solute breakthrough curves. Model performance was evaluated using several statistical criteria: maximum error, mean absolute error, root mean square standard error, coefficient of residual mass, coefficient of determination, efficiency and the Willmott agreement index.
