“…Mango wilt disease has been known in Brazil since the 1930s (Viegas 1960) and has similar symptoms to those observed in Oman and Pakistan. The causal agent of the disease in Brazil resides in the C. fimbriata complex that is believed to include a number of distinct taxa (Van Wyk et al 2007;Harrington et al 2011;Van Wyk et al 2011;Van Wyk et al 2013) but the relatedness of these to C. manginecans remains to be fully resolved.…”

“…Furthermore, the disease symptoms were associated with H. mangiferae infestation and C. manginecans was isolated from adult beetles (Van Wyk et al 2007). A very similar wilt disease of mango, seca, has been known in Brazil since 1938 (Viegas 1960). In Brazil, Ceratocystis fimbriata sensu lato is consistently isolated from seca-affected mango trees and it has been confirmed as the causal agent (Viegas 1960;Ploetz 2003;Ferreira et al 2010).…”

“…Mango wilt, caused by the fungus Ceratocystis fimbriata Ellis & Halsted s.l., is one of the most important diseases of mango, causing substantial yield losses (Batista et al 2008). Disease symptoms include withered and dried leaves accompanied by internal necrotic lesions in the stem tissues (Viégas 1960). These symptoms begin in the thinner branches and slowly progress throughout the canopy until the death of the entire plant (Batista et al 2008;Viégas 1960;Ribeiro 2005).…”

At the early stages of fungal infection, mango wilt is extremely difficult to diagnose (Rossetto and Ribeiro 1990).…”
