Show more

“…PSD was assessed using the Geriatric Depression Scale, 15 items (GDS-15).This scale was translated and validated in Brazil with test-retest (rho = 0.86, p < 0.001), kappa coefficient 0.64 and good internal consistency (Croncbach α = 0.81) 15 . The GDS-15 is a reduced version of the original scale, being composed of 15 items strongly associated with the diagnosis of depression with dichotomous responses (yes or no) to the questions.…”

This instrument consists of questions about the ownership and quantity of certain items, such as color television, radio and a bathroom, among others, and the educational level of the head of household.…”

“…The analysis of DC6 was performed through the clock test, word recall and drawing of a pentagon. Concerning DC4 -experiences of forgetfulness -this was found in six elderly patients (25%) who reported such perception when questioned specifically about the functioning of the memory and also presented relevant results (a score greater than or equal to 5 points) in the evaluation using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) (14) . The GDS, evaluation scale that assists in the identification of cases suggestive of depression, constitutes a differential to avoid confusion between conditions of dementia and depression.…”

“…The GDS, evaluation scale that assists in the identification of cases suggestive of depression, constitutes a differential to avoid confusion between conditions of dementia and depression. Results from 5 to 7 should be investigated and above 7 indicate probable depression (14) . Although not diagnosed as clinical depression, its occurrence varies between 10% to 25% in the elderly living in the community, between 12% to 16% in elderly residents of long-term care institutions and over 20% to 30% for institutional residents with depressive symptoms (7,9,(14)(15) .…”
