Abstract: The indication for thymectomy in myasthenia gravis still is controversial, and it is uncommon to find in the present days studies comparing conservative treatments, due to the widespread surgical treatment adopted in most centers. “…Some papers in favor of thymectomy presented good results ranging from 60.0% to 86.0% of the patients (5,11,12,15,22,23), against 16.6% to 49.0% for cases in the non-surgical group (4,12,15). One of these studies was done by pairing age, gender, severity and disease duration, and reported more remissions and improvement in the thymectomy group (15), but other reviews cast some doubts on the method and the results (21,24,25). Also, in some series, the cases with medical complications or bad prognostic cases did not undergo thymectomy, with obvious bias implications (26).…”
