“…Knowledge about the clinical and electrical manifestations of parietal and occipital seizures is based mainly on case studies and occasional larger series Whitty, 1953, 1955;Marques-Assis et al, 1971; Ludwig and Ajmone Marsan, 1975;Mauguiere and Courjon, 1978). The incidence of these seizures and relative frequency of the different seizure phenomena is not well known, but are generally considered rare (Commission, 1985).…”

“…Elementary visual phenomena have been reported in epilepsy from all brain regions other than the frontal lobes, but the occipital lobes are most commonly involved (Ludwig and Ajmone Marsan, 1975). The frequency of visual auras in occipital lobe epilepsy varies greatly in reported series from 8% (68 cases) (Marques-Assis et al, 1971) to 72% (42 cases) (Salanova et al, 1992), and approximately one third of patients with epilepsy associated with tumors of the occipital lobes have been reported to have initial visual seizures (Allen, 1930). Repeated elementary visual seizures in the form of status epilepticus have been described but are exceptional (Gastaut, 1983).…”
