Abstract: Thirty-nine patients were studied, 85,6% female, average age 60,1 years (+/- 12,89). The average index of the fecal incontinence was of 9,30 (+/- 4,93). In the anorectal manometry 23 patients showed low pressure. The pressures were significantly higher among males. The nerve terminal motor latency and pudental nerve (neuropathy) time was greater in 14 patients (35,9%). The age and the time of pudental nerve terminal motor were significantly co related. The other co relations were not statistically significant.

“…MRI is the imaging modality that best demonstrates the relationship between the fistula and the anal sphincter complex, allowing for detailed anatomical imaging (14). Fecal incontinence is the inability to maintain physiological control of the intestines in a socially appropriate place and time, which may include symptoms ranging from occasional involuntary gas incontinence to persistent stool incontinence (15,16). Besides, patients with fecal incontinence may be more exposed to health complications such as skin injuries and urinary tract infections (17).…”

“…FI is the inability to keep the physiological control of the bowels in a socially adequate place and time, with symptoms varying from occasional flatus to continuous and involuntary stool loss 7,8 , and the patients with fecal incontinence are more subject to health complications, such as skin injuries, urinary in-fection and nutritional alterations 9 . The losses develop high physical and psychological inability, leading to reduced self-esteem and gradual social withdrawal, with negative impact on the patients' mental health and psychosocial aspects 10 .…”
