“…The incidence of retinal detachment in our cohort of children and young adults who underwent lens surgery for ectopia lentis was higher than in most other single-center series (Table 4). [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] Our series used claims data that are less likely to exclude patients and is nearly 4 times larger than any previous series. In addition, single-center series are often reported by surgeons who have a special expertise in the type of surgery being reported, whereas claims data include surgeons with a broader range of expertise.…”

“…These techniques include the implantation of an iris-claw IOL, iris-sutured posterior chamber IOL (PC IOL), scleral-sutured PC IOL, intrascleral haptic-fixated PC IOL, in-the-bag fixation using a capsular tension ring coupled with amputation of 1 haptic of a 3-piece PC IOL, and in-the-bag fixation with a Cionni capsular tension ring sutured to the sclera. [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] A variety of complications have been reported after these surgical procedures including suture erosions, haptic extrusion, glaucoma, chronic uveitis, pupillary block, optic capture, IOL decentration, IOL dislocation, cystoid macular edema, vitreous hemorrhage, suprachoroidal hemorrhage, and retinal detachment. [11][12][13][14] In a recent review, the incidence of retinal detachment after IOL implantation in patients without zonular support was reported to be 0% to 8.2%.…”

“…The body of literature on UBM for pediatric cataracts evaluates the anatomy at each relevant step in the congenital cataract lifecycle: diagnosis and preoperative planning, surgical removal, and postoperative assessment generally dedicated to assessing intraocular lens (IOL) position. Fifty-seven percent of publications evaluated the position and visual outcome for various IOL types and locations including bag, sulcus, scleral fixated, and iris claw [35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42]. The remaining 43% of publications evaluated pre-and postoperative anatomy.…”
