It is known that resistance training for women brings several benefits such as improved health, physical and emotional well-being, and improved strength capacity, and can also help in the menstrual cycle. Most women believe that menstrual symptoms such as weight gain, cramps, bloating, and discouragement are factors for the loss of muscle performance; however, regular and periodized training according to the biological individuality can minimize these symptoms. The objective of the study was to carry out a bibliographic review about the influence of the phases of the menstrual cycle on the strength capacity in resistance training. Consultations were made to the following databases: Scielo, Medline, Lilacs, and Pubmed, using the following criteria: date of publication between January 2000 and December 2019; languages, Portuguese and English; terms included in the title and/or abstract - woman, strength training, menstrual cycle, resistance exercise, strength levels, and effects of the phases of the menstrual cycle on resistance training. Eight studies were analyzed, where four observed menstrual cycle interferences on strength performance and four did not. Thus, it can be concluded that the relationship of strength during the phases of the menstrual cycle are still controversial. It is suggested that further studies be carried out to verify and prove the influence of the phases of the menstrual cycle on strength capacity in resistance training.

Salivary cortisol concentrations in hematogy/oncology nurses on working days and days off

Objective: to assess salivary cortisol concentrations in hematology/oncology nurses on working days and days off. Methods: a cross-sectional study carried out with 28 nurses from a university hospital. A sociodemographic, employment and health profile questionnaire was applied. For saliva collection, Salivette® tubes were used. Descriptive and analytical analysis was used. Results: there was no significant difference in cortisol concentrations between working days and days off (p>0.05). The high cortisol concentration was associated with not having children (0.621±0.340; p=0.046), not using medication (0.623±0.133; p=0.017) and birth control pills (0.556 ± 0.228; p=0.047) and intention to leave work (0.951±0.154; p=0.001). A positive correlation was identified between cortisol and absence from work due to health issues (0.72; p=0.05) and weight gain (0.935; p=0.02). Conclusion: in general, cortisol concentration is within the reference parameters, with no significant difference in its secretion on working days and days off.

Abstract:Menopause is an endocrine condition due to the decline in ovarian activity, which occurs in all women and is characterized as a progressive hypoestrogenism. To minimize damage from lack hormonal activity, hormone replacement therapy has been developed (TRH), which is widely used around the world, often without criteria pre-established. Thus, this study aims to identify hormonal therapies used postmenopausal and relate them to the development of tumors. In addition, identify the criteria for the use of HRT, the utilization time and women who are part of the risk groups are also objectives of this study. In the beginning, the clinical methodology of HRT included only estrogen, but epidemiological studies have observed that the progestin presence is essential in endometrial hyperplasia control adding to the therapy. Progestogens act depending on its molecular structure, and consequently selectivity, or may interact with other steroid receptors. From this interaction, different pharmacodynamic answers about importance in the development of tumors can be observed, ie, progesterone activity, estrogen, antiestrogen, androgen and / or antiandrogen. In view of the mechanism of carcinogen administration of estrogens, it can be said that HRT increases the risk of breast, uterus and ovary cancer. However, the estrogenic actions may be adjusted when there is administration of progestin drugs and with antiestrogenic and antiandrogenic actions. Given this, in menopausal women, it is advisable to trace gynecological cancer, before, during and after any therapeutic interventions, and the decision of using and the choice of HRT on an individual basis, through a careful assessment of signs and symptoms and long-term risk.
