Abstract: Plastic biomedia, also known as filter media, are small, perforated plastic pieces (polyethylene [PE] or high-density polyethylene [HDPE]) used as bacterial biofilm carriers to improve the wastewater treatment process, invented in Norway in the 1980s (Ødegarrd et al., 1994;Ballerini et al., 2022).
