Geology, geochemistry and petrology of basalts from Paraná Continental Magmatic Province in the Araguari, Uberlândia, Uberaba and Sacramento regions, Minas Gerais state, Brazil

Abstract: This study covers the region between the cities of Sacramento and Araguari/Uberlândia (Minas Gerais State, Brazil), where basalt flows from the Paraná Continental Magmatic Province outcrop. The investigated rocks present tholeiitic signature, with high titanium content, and are classified as Pitanga magma-type. The preserved basalt thickness is between 10 and 200 meters and individual flows do not exceed 15 meters thick. Flows were identified as sheet lobes, smaller and thinner flows units-stacked laterally an… Show more

“…The pyroxene crystals have an inclined extinction between 41˚ to 47˚, indicating the presence of clinopyroxene of diopside to augite mineral. The classification of pyroxene after [14] diagram, the rock samples of JDB is plotted within diopside and augite field (Figure 2(b)), these result documented within [15]. The clinopyroxene intersected with plagioclase crystals to form sub ophitic texture.…”

“…Offtake of manganese, boron, copper, and zinc showed a similar trend when normalized (Figures 4 and 5), although were taken up in different proportions by plants. Krahl et al 237 The micronutrients Mn, B and Zn are present indistinctively in all primary minerals that compose this basalt, especially diopside (Moraes et al, 2018), while Cu is accumulated in smectite structure, formed by hydrothermal process (Baggio et al, 2016).…”
