Show more

“…OAE response amplitudes were higher when the same patients with PD were tested without their medication (17). This result corroborates with the study of Lopes et al (19), who found higher DPOAE response amplitudes in patients with PD receiving low daily doses of dopaminergic medication compared to patients receiving higher doses.…”

“…Indeed, a high-frequency age-related hearing impairment has been shown in studies that used pure-tone audiometry to evaluate the hearing sensitivity of patients with PD and age-matched control participants (HCs). On the one hand, multiple studies have demonstrated the same sloping audiometric pattern in patients with PD compared to HCs, consistent with the presence of an age-related hearing loss (17)(18)(19)(20). These studies did not find significant differences between patients with PD and HCs regarding pure-tone hearing thresholds.…”

“…Furthermore, when controlling for baseline differences regarding TEOAE signal amplitudes in the condition without CAS, the normalized index of ES did not differ significantly between patients with PD and HCs. Consistent with Lopes et al (2019), these findings suggest normal MOC function in patients with PD. However, if CAS fails to reduce the TEOAE signal amplitude by 1 dB or more, ES is generally described as abnormal (Murdin & Davies, 2008).…”

“…In patients with PD evaluated with dopaminergic medication, increased TEOAE signal amplitudes during contralateral acoustic stimulation (CAS) have been observed, suggesting reduced ES and a dysfunction of the MOC system (Di Mauro et al, 2017). In contrast, Lopes et al (2019) found generally normal ES of DPOAEs in patients with PD compared to HCs. However, when patients with PD were stratified by daily levodopa equivalent dose (LED), patients receiving higher doses demonstrated greater ES compared to patients with PD receiving lower doses.…”
