Background The incidence rate of suicide has been increased in Iran over the past decades especially in East Azerbaijan Province which there are limited studies on suicide. We aimed to investigate the 12-year trend of suicide and demographic characteristics in East Azerbaijan Province during the period 2007–2018. We obtained the data on the suicide mortality and socio-demographic status from the Death Registry Information System (DRIS) and compared with legal medicine suicide statistics during the study period. Results A total of 2422 and 1783 suicide cases were reported by legal medicine and DRIS (average incidence rate 5.94 vs 4.4 per 100,000) in the 12-year period from 2007 to 2018, respectively. The suicide rate in males was more than two times that of females. The mean and median age of suicide was 34.07 and 31 years, respectively. The most common suicide method was hanging (51.9%). The incidence rate of suicide cases was decreasing between 2007 and 2014, however from 2015 to 2018 has been increased. Conclusions The incidence rate of suicide in this province has been increasing with a smooth slope. Community-based programs and measures should be taken to stop the growth rate of suicide.

Introduction: Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the world. For every person who commits suicide, twenty or more have attempted to take their own lives. The emotional state of anger is often associated with suicidal behavior. However, this association needs to be further clarified.Objectives: This study sought to investigate the profiles of traits and expressions of anger in inpatients admitted to a general emergency hospital after surviving a suicide attempt. Methods: In this case-control study, a sample of 28 suicide survivors was matched for sex, age, and educational level with 56 controls. The State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 was used to measure anger traits and expression. Results: Suicide survivors scored higher for anger traits and expression and lower for anger control than the control group. They also had lower levels of state anger and willingness to express anger verbally than the control group. Conclusions: Patients who attempted suicide and had high scores for anger expression (in and out) are inclined to have extreme difficulty in interpersonal relationships and rigidity towards change and are at higher risk of developing psychopathologies.

Introdução: o comportamento suicida corresponde a um fenômeno de violência autolesiva e de caráter multifatorial, classificado como um problema de saúde pública grave. A motivação individual para o ato é complexa, envolvendo aspectos sociais, biológicos e psicológicos, de modo a causar uma fonte de sofrimento intensa e intraduzível fazendo com que a vontade de autoaniquilação se torne uma opção viável para a resolução do conflito. Objetivo: identificar o perfil das notificações de lesão autoprovocada pela população estudantil, registradas pela Vigilância Epidemiológica de Rio Branco, Acre, entre os anos de 2017 e 2019. Metodologia: trata-se de estudo do tipo transversal com dados retrospectivos, utilizando dados obtidos a partir do banco de dados secundário, da Vigilância Epidemiológica de Rio Branco no SINAN, acerca dos casos de lesões autoprovocadas na população, notificadas no município entre o período de 2017 e 2019. Resultados: as lesões autoprovocadas são mais frequentes na segunda década de vida, em indivíduos com ensino médio incompleto, sexo feminino, sendo a residência própria o local em que mais ocorrem os casos e o método mais utilizado é o envenenamento. Conclusão: o perfil evidencia a necessidade de políticas públicas na região para a população estudantil que visem atividades de prevenção ao suicídio e promoção à saúde no âmbito escolar.
