Bromeliads have been gaining ground in the economic scenario due mainly to their use as ornamental plants. Bromeliads of the genus Dyckia exhibit different morphologies, and therefore, have relevance in this market. However, some species are threatened due to the extraction of plants from their natural environments. Many of these species are endemic and native to Brazil and there are few studies on their seed physiology; hence, expansion of research into this topic is essential. An alternative for the preservation of such plants is the production of seedlings using seeds. To this end, the objective of this work was to evaluate the physiological potential of seeds of Dyckia brevifolia, Dyckia beateae, and Dyckia excelsa at different temperatures, and determine the number of days to carry out the tests. A completely randomized design was adopted, with three species of Dyckia, analyzed separately, and four temperatures (20, 25, 30, and 35 °C). The following were evaluated: first germination count, germination, germination speed index, length of seedling, and seedling dry weight. The data were analyzed using the Sisvar software for normality and homogeneity, and when the assumptions were met, they were subjected to analysis of variance using the F test (p < 0.05) and the means were compared using the Tukey test at 5% probability. Seeds of D. excelsa emit the radicle more quickly at 20 and 35 °C; however, temperatures of 25 and 30 °C provide better conditions for seedling growth and development. The greatest vigor of D. brevifolia seeds is observed at temperatures of 30 and 35 °C. Seeds of D. beateae emit the radicle more quickly at 20 °C, and the largest seedlings are observed at 35 °C. The first germination count of D. brevifolia, D. beateae, and D. excelsa should be evaluated on the third day after sowing. The germination evaluations for D. excelsa and D. beateae should be carried out on the ninth day after sowing, and those for D. brevifolia on the sixth day after sowing.

RESUMO A vegetação ao longo das áreas ciliares exerce funções essenciais para manutenção dos recursos hídricos, além de serem consideradas Áreas de Preservação Permanente (APP). O conjunto de sementes viáveis existentes nestas áreas retratam o banco de sementes e substituem as espécies antigas. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi conhecer a composição florística e densidade do banco de sementes do solo nas margens da cachoeira Domingos Lopes. Foram avaliados 10 transectos para margem direita e 10 para margem esquerda, por meio de contagem e germinação, sendo que para cada transecto foi coletado solo em 3 pontos 0 m 25 m e 50 m da margem, totalizando 60 amostras com 0,40 x 0,20 e 0,05 m cada. Retirou-se 10% de solo para contagem de sementes de cada unidade amostral, sendo o restante acondicionado em casa de vegetação por 180 dias e avaliadas por germinação. O teste não paramétrico de Kruskal-Wallis foi utilizado para verificar possível diferença significativa com uso do programa Past. Foi contabilizado um total de 123 plântulas para o método de germinação, sendo 68 para margem esquerda. Já para método de contagem extraiu-se 77 sementes, a maioria 44 para o lado direito da cachoeira, não ocorrendo diferença significativa na densidade de sementes para os métodos. Assim o banco de sementes do solo da cachoeira Domingos Lopes é formado majoritariamente por espécies herbáceas, sendo que, as arbóreas podem ser utilizadas em programas de recuperação da área.

The study was conducted in a portion of tropical montane forest in the Caparaó National Park, Brazil. The aim of this work was to assess the changes in seed bank composition, density and richness along an altitudinal gradient and across seasons, and to analyse the floristic links between the forest soil seed bank, seed rain, regeneration layer and adult tree layer. The seed bank data were collected in the dry and rainy seasons at seven different elevations, ranging from 1112 -1550 m above sea level. The floristic relationships were analysed through the species lists derived from previous studies at these same locations. The results showed seed density and species richness varied among different elevations, but did not vary with gradient. Seed bank density and richness varied significantly across seasons, with the highest averages found in the rainy season. In the floristic composition, the higher elevations showed more similar composition than to the lower elevations. Seed bank composition was floristically different from the seed rain, the regeneration layer and the adult tree layer of the forest. Our results showed that the soil seed bank was influenced by both altitude and environmental seasonality. The findings highlighted the importance soil seed bank as a mechanism of post-disturbance forest regeneration.
