Class I malocclusion with anterior crossbite and severe crowding

Daltro Enéas Ritter

Abstract: This article reports the orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning carried out with a 14-year and 5-month-old female patient with esthetic and functional complaints. She presented an Angle Class I malocclusion, anterior crossbite and severe crowding in both maxillary and mandibular arches, in addition to a lightly concave straight facial profile. Orthodontic treatment did not require extraction. Crossbite was corrected by protrusion of upper teeth, which contributed to alignment and leveling of teeth, in ad… Show more

“…The facial profile is not altered (mesognathic). 47,49 Class II malocclusion (disto-occlusion, also called "overbite") is defined as the mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary first molar being positioned anterior to the buccal groove of the mandibular first molar. The line of occlusion is altered with space needs, either due to a too small mandible or a too big maxilla.…”

“…In lateral view, the patient presented with a deficiency in the premaxilla and a concave profile with a tendency to become worse overtime. 1,2,3 O presente caso clínico relata o tratamento ortodôntico de uma paciente com oito anos e nove meses de idade, portadora de má oclusão de Classe I de Angle, com mordida cruzada anterior e relação de classe III entre os caninos. O tratamento ortodôntico foi realizado em duas etapas, sendo a primeira ortopédica e a segunda constando de aparatologia fixa, havendo necessidade de ganho de espaço para reanatomização dos incisivos laterais superiores.…”

“…Orthodontic treatment allows improvement of the patient's facial and dental by obtaining ideal positional relationship among teeth, within and between the arches. 1 The orthodontic tooth movement occurs through the teeth micromotion that stimulate bone resorption and tooth roots around the bone apposition. 2 However, various studies have been reported that orthodontic mechanics may affect the supporting tissues by modifying the balance between tooth and alveolar bone.…”
