Abstract: Resumo Este trabalho relaciona as espécies e variedades de Bromeliaceae ocorrentes nos campos de altitude do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. 2. Costa leste do Brasil. 3.

“…Why treeline is so low in southeastern Brazil is an unresolved issue, although heavy frost, dry season length, and periodic fire probably all playa role (Safford 1999, and in prep.). The vegetation of the campos de altitude is dominated by bunch grasses (e. g., Cortaderia and Calamagrostis) and montane bamboo (Chusquea), with dwarf trees and sclerophyllous shrubs in varying admixtures (Martinelli and Bandeira 1989). The overall physiognomic appearance is reminiscent of lower Andean paramo (if somewhat rockier) and, indeed, many taxa are disjunctly shared with the southern and/or equatorial Andes (Brade 1956).…”

“…Ephemeral drainage channels are widespread in the Serra do Mar, although they are not as common or as strongly expressed as in the highly fluted syenites of the Serra do Itatiaia; sometimes these channels connect systems of small rock pools (see below). Lichens inhabiting the edges of these ephemeral pools and channels produce organic acids that may be essential for the further disaggregation of the host rock (Martinelli and Bandeira 1989). Where water runs often through such channels, lichens are rare, and cyanobacterial (and algal) slimes coat the rock.…”

“…e Zygopetalum triste Barb.Rodr. (Orchidaceae) (Barros 1998) e algumas Bromeliaceae (Martinelli & Vaz 1988).
