Selection of conilon coffee clones tolerant to pests and diseases in Minas Gerais

Abstract: In the northern Minas region, the dry-warm climate predisposes coffee plants to the occurrence of leaf miners, mites, cercosporiosis, and leaf scald. Aiming for the development of a cultivar adapted to these conditions, Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner clones were selected through genetic parameters under an irrigated system, without agrochemicals. Eighteen agronomic traits were evaluated. The survival rate, number of nodes per plagiotropic branch, leaf miner infestation and cercosporiosis incidence were… Show more

“…While narrow-sense heritability is associated only with additive values, broad-sense heritability is associated with both effects (CRUZ & REGAZZI, 2001). Vegetative propagation of the clones allows the same genotype to be cultivated on a large scale, taking advantage of the additive effect of the genes (a) and due to the effects of dominance deviations (d) (RAMALHO et al, 2016;SILVA et al, 2019;PARTELLI . et al, 2020).…”

“…Change in the performance of the clones from one environment to another can be of the simple type, when there is no change in the ranking of the clones from one environment to another, or of the complex type, when the best genotypes in one environment are not the best in other environments (Silva et al, 2019;Partelli et al, 2020) ). Genotypes 14, 1, 20, 15, and 12 had yield superior to the mean of the experiments, along with high stability.…”

“…Conventional breeding efforts have included strategies such as hybridization, selection by interspecific crossings and backcrossing to transfer resistance to biotic stresses, and improve adaptation and the yield (Silva et al 2019, Shigueoka et al 2014. The lack of reproductive precision, the differences in ploidy levels between C. arabica and other diploid species, and their incompatibility are limitations associated with conventional coffee breeding.…”
