“…This was the first effort to identify heterotic groups in sugarcane and thus make it possible to more effectively explore the nonadditive and additive effects involved in the expression of traits of importance to the crop (Figure 1). Recognizing the importance of exploring both SCA and GCA (Barbosa et al, 2004;Bastos et al, 2003;Bressiani et al, 2002;Hogarth, 1980;Santana, Reis, & Chaves, 2017;Wu et al, 1980), we propose the application of RRS in sug-arcane breeding. In this context, RRS using the population in question could be applied at two levels, as described by Resende and Barbosa (2005): (a) at the population level, involving the crossing of several individuals from one population with individuals from the reciprocal population, and (b) at the individual level (IRRS), involving only one individual from each population, which results in an excellent cross with high genotypic value and high SCA.…”
