Metabolic syndrome (MetS), a set of cardiovascular risk factors, is one of the most prevalent metabolic abnormalities, which lead to many chronic conditions. This systematic review aims to detect the published literature on the prevalence of MetS among Saudi children. The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Science Direct, EBSCO, and PubMed were all searched. Rayyan QCRI was used to screen study articles by title and abstract before full-text evaluation. Six studies were included, with a total of 1048 subjects. The prevalence of MetS among Saudi children ranged from 7% to 30%. The most commonly associated comorbidities with MetS were Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and hypertension. According to this systematic analysis, the prevalence of MetS in various Saudi paediatric populations varied and ranged from 7% to 30%. A high prevalence of MetS was discovered in obese children, despite the fact that it was also seen in kids with normal BMI. The two related comorbidities that were most common were T2DM and hypertension. Obesity in children must be avoided in order to lower future MetS. In many different situations, screening for obesity and MetS should be a part of paediatric clinical care. By detecting the presence of MetS and taking action with specific lifestyle recommendations and regular follow-up to encourage adherence, it is anticipated that the long-term health of these children will be improved.

Cardiovascular health (CVH) is a critical issue for global health. However, no previous study has determined the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors based on the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Life’s Essential 8 (LE8). Therefore, we aimed to estimate the global prevalence of the eight cardiovascular risk factors identified in the LE8. A systematic search of systematic reviews with meta-analysis on cardiovascular risk factors covering data reported between 2000 and 2019 was conducted on PubMed, Epistemonikos, and the Cochrane Library until 1 May 2023. After applying exclusion criteria, 79 studies remained in the final selection for the narrative synthesis in the systematic review, of which 33 of them were used in the meta-analysis which included 2 555 639 participants from 104 countries. The overall pooled prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors was as follows: insufficient physical activity, 26.3% (95% CI 2.3%–63.4%), no adherence to a healthy diet, 34.1% (95% CI 5.8%–71.2%), nicotine exposure, 15.4% (95% CI 10.4%–21.2%), insufficient sleep quality, 38.5% (95% CI 14.0%–66.7%), obesity, 17.3% (95% CI 6.1%–32.6%), dyslipidemia, 34.1% (95% CI 33.8%–34.4%), diabetes, 12.0% (95% CI 7.0%–18.2%), and hypertension, 29.4% (95% CI 23.3%–35.8%). These results warrant prevention strategies aimed at reducing insufficient sleep quality, and no adherence to a healthy diet as leading cardiovascular risk factors worldwide. The high prevalence of hypertension among children and adults is concerning and should also be adequately addressed through global policies.

(1) Background: Metabolic syndrome is a strong predictor of cardiovascular disease thus the objective of the study was to verify the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in farmers, as well as to verify the association with sociodemographic, work and lifestyle factors. (2) Methods: Cross-sectional, observational study, conducted with 790 individuals. For the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome, the National Cholesterol Education Program’s Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III) and International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria were used. Pearson’s chi-square test and binary logistic regression were used to verify factors associated with metabolic syndrome (3) Results: The prevalence of MS according to the IDF criteria was 16.3% overall, with 9.7% of women (95% CI: 6.66–16.16) and 6.6% of men (95% CI: 5.17–11.97). According to the NCEP/ATP III criterion, it was 12.3% overall, with 7.5% corresponding to women (95% CI: 6.62–13.13) and 4.8% to men (95% CI: 3.5–8.70). With regard to the conditions that make up metabolic syndrome, it was found that high density lipoprotein, high blood pressure and high waist circumference were the most prevalent. (4) Conclusions: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is considerable in the population when compared to other regions, both rural and urban, in Brazil.
