Bioethics advances as the foundation of medical work

Abstract

In this issue, Revista Bioética brings studies and approaches on subjects such as spirituality and pain, palliative care, social death, communication of bad news in the context of children, medical empathy, suicide and oncological practices. These themes permeate medical practice and impact the lives of patients in the evolution of health, providing continuous transformation and expanding the bioethical vision for humanity.Nowadays, the physician faces the technicality of medicine, having to deal with the scientific-technological benefits and the affective capacity, and, at the same time, ponder the principles of medical ethics, which guide the profession, respecting them regardless of modern technological systems. Thus, it is evident the need for training and updating of the technical knowledge of medical professionals and related areas to ensure quality care and respect for the dignity of the human person 1 .Having bioethics as one of its work foundations and investing in this fundamental field for humanity for more than 30 years through this scientific journal, the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) was chosen to host, in 2024, the 16th edition of the World Conference on Bioethics, Medical Ethics and Health Law. The event will take place on July 24, 25 and 26 at the newly opened headquarters of the institution and will position Brasília as the world capital of bioethics 2 . This achievement is the result of CFM's intense work in conjunction with the International Chair in Bioethics, held by Professor Rui Nunes, which has about 250 centers around the planet, with approximately 3,000 collaborators 3 . This commitment demonstrates the search for the appreciation of Revista Bioética, and of CFM, in the international scientific scenario. Thus, we remain steadfast and working, so that bioethics flourishes all over the world.
