Abstract:Resumo Autor de personagens femininas aclamadas pelos leitores, Machado de Assis criou mulheres que suscitam o debate de gênero realizado pela crítica literária. Neste artigo, meu objetivo é analisar Potira e Sabina, duas personagens femininas machadianas da coletânea poética Americanas (1875), uma indígena e outra africana, pela ótica das discussões sobre escravidão, raça e gênero no Brasil Imperial.
