Control of contaminants in the in vitro establishment of Guadua latifolia

Abstract: The Amazonian bamboo forests are located in an important region of high biodiversity in Brazil, Peru and Bolivia, forming the largest native bamboo forest reserve in the world. However, the bamboos from these forests have characteristics that hinder their propagation. This study aimed to evaluate the biocide action of a plant preservative mixture for controling contaminants, during the in vitro establishment of Guadua latifolia (Bonpl.) Kunth, a species native to the region. Nodal segments were cultured in a s… Show more

“…Following selection of the optimal sterilization treatment (Leão et al, 2020), the explants were inoculated in glass tubes containing 10 mL of MS liquid medium (Murashige & Skoog, 1962), supplemented with sucrose (30 g L -1 ), 2 mL L -1 of Plant Preservative Mixture -PPM ® and 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) concentrations of 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 mg L -1 . The analyzed variables after 2 subcultures were number of shoots, shoot height, multiplication rate and the presence of callus and roots.…”

“…PPM has been used to disinfect in vitro explants of species such as bamboo, strawberry, red ginger, etc. [11][12][13][14]. Likewise, Chlorothalonil is a broad-spectrum fungicide with a polychlorinated aromatic component that delays mycelial growth and inhibits spore germination.…”
