This study describes the application and evaluation of a novel didactic tool (thermodynamic device) developed for students in the area of biology who have conceptual deficiencies that render the learning of thermodynamic principles difficult. Systems of communicant vessels with equal and different compartments were constructed to correlate the equilibrium constant of the reactions and reagent/product ratios with the concept of standard and nonstandard Gibbs free energy changes (DG8 and DG, respectively). The communicating vessels were filled respectively with equal and different volumes of a dye aqueous solution followed by the opening of a faucet that coupled the vessels. This procedure allows liquid flux leading to the movement of internal propellers. The movement of the propellers turns on an electronic circuit that processes the information to exhibit the energy released by the movement of the solution toward equilibrium. The thermodynamic device was evaluated regarding the efficiency of content comprehension and retention of the gain by challenging students to answer five subjective questions 1 week after a regular teaching module about thermodynamics. The overall mean score obtained by the students who accessed the thermodynamic device (7.0) was significantly higher (p < 0.01) than the mean score of the control group (3.4). The thermodynamic device increased twofold the percentage of students who gave more than 50% correct answers. The efficiency of the didactic tool was also evaluated and corroborated by objective questions. In conclusion, the use of the thermodynamic device was highly effective in improving the understanding of thermodynamic principles by undergraduate biology students.Keywords: Original models for teaching and learning, teaching and learning techniques methods and approaches, sources of difficulties and teaching strategies to correct difficulties, student conceptual and reasoning difficulties.

Capítulo 1 INTRODUCCIÓNEn esta tesis se formula un modelo teórico, que se denomina "Modelo Constructivista para la Enseñanza de las Ciencias en Línea" (abreviado como MoCEL), en el que se delimitan seis dimensiones de análisis necesarias para su desarrollo y se propone una estructura o metodología de trabajo organizada en cuatro etapas.Para operativizar el modelo didáctico propuesto se ha elaborado un módulo con TIC (e-módulo) 1 sobre la problemática los Residuos Sólidos Urbanos (RSU), que incluye un CD-ROM -donde se proporciona información relevante sobre los RSU, un conjunto de actividades secuenciadas según el modelo didáctico, un video para sensibilizar a los alumnos en el tema y una simulación computacional para la gestión de este problema ambiental-y la utilización de una plataforma virtual de libre acceso (Moodle) como andamiaje para la comunicación entre los integrantes del Curso y con sus tutores.1 Con el nombre de e-módulo se designa a una estructura diseñada para facilitar el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje en línea, que abarca la propuesta didáctica, los recursos tecnológicos y las actividades para la comunicación.

Sabe-se que hoje é muito comum encontrar animais malnutridos no ambiente hospitalar, pois os clínicos não acreditam que a alimentação seja tão necessária para o sucesso da recuperação do paciente e isso não pode ser negligenciado. É importante ter em mente que os efeitos relacionados a isso implicam o aumento da morbidade e mortalidade e que objetivo da nutrição, seja esta por via enteral ou parenteral, é prevenir a desnutrição e auxiliar na recuperação do paciente. Deve-se formular protocolos para definir as necessidades calóricas do animal e sempre acompanhar os prontuários dos mesmos, estando atento ao seu consumo diário de alimentos para saber quando e como intervir nutricionalmente. O tipo de nutrição a ser aplicado vai depender das condições clinicas de cada indivíduo e pode variar de acordo com a doença primária, do quadro clínico e das possíveis complicações. O correto é procurar causar o mínimo de estresse ou trauma adicional ao animal, sempre iniciando pelo suporte nutricional básico como a estimulação do apetite, evoluindo, se necessário, para a técnica de nutrição enteral ou parenteral. Esta revisão de literatura tem como objetivo relatar a importância da nutrição em animais hospitalizados, demonstrando os métodos disponíveis e os efeitos benéficos de se intervir nutricionalmente. AbstractIt is known that today it is very common to find malnourished animals in the hospital environment, because they are no longer accepted by a diet and condition for the success of the patient's recovery and can be neglected. It is important to keep in mind and the effects regarding the increase of morbidity and mortality and the goal of nutrition, through enteral or parenteral, and prevent malnutrition and assist in the patient’s recovery. Protocols should be formulated to define the animal’s caloric need and always follow the animals’ files,being aware of their daily consumption of food to know when and how to intervene nutritionally. The type of nutrition to be applied will depend on the clinical conditions of each individual and may vary according to the primary disease, clinical signs and possible solutions. The correct thing is to try to cause the minimum stress possible to the animal, always starting with basic nutritional support as a stimulation of appetite, evolving if necessary for an enteral or parenteral nutrition technique. This literature review aims to report the importance of nutrition in hospitalized animals, demonstrating the available methods and the beneficial effects of nutritionally intervening.
