Abstract: This study evaluated the profi le of public and private high school students (N = 254, M age = 15.1, SD = 1.3) in the city of São Paulo in relation to their Internet use patterns and quality of life. We used the Internet Addiction Test and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory. About 70% of the students had moderate Internet addiction. “…Regarding the nominal variables, they were analysed using the Chi-square Test (χ 2 ) or Fischer's Exact Test. To assess the effect size, we used Cramer's V for the nominal variables, and Eta squared (η²) for the continuous variables (Cruz, Scatena, Andrade, & De Micheli, 2018).…”

“…Data from the continuous variables were standardized using the Z-score method to identify possible data outliers (-3 ≤ Z-Score ≥ 3) that could affect the data analysis 20,21 . A chi-square test was used for analysis of categorical variables, and a one-way analysis of variance for continuous variables.…”
