Effect of water temperature and pH on the concentration and time of ozone saturation

Abstract: Ozone has been used for many years to disinfect water due to its oxidizing potential. Since it decomposes quickly into molecular oxygen, leaving no residue, it has important advantages for use. The decomposition of ozone is affected by the temperature and pH of the medium, low pH values and temperatures increasing its half-life, which can result in more efficient disinfection. With the objective of increasing the effectiveness of ozonation, this study investigated the effect of temperature (8 ºC and 25 °C) and… Show more

“…The evidence of the great instability of ozone is provided by the large difference between the injected gas content and the saturation concentration. Galdeano et al 64 investigated the effect of temperature and pH of water on the saturation time and gas concentration. At 13.3 mg L −1 bubbled in water, only 26% to 34% of ozone were quantified in the water, and the lowest value occurred with the highest temperature (25°C) and the highest pH (6.0) tested.…”

“…The treated solution showed near-saturation with ozone after one minute of treatment. However, the ozone treatment in subsequent tests was set at an average temperature of 25 °C with pH = 7 [ 34 , 35 , 36 ]. In order to evaluate the sanitation kinetics, the concentration–time concept was applied, i.e., ozone concentration (C) in mg/L was multiplied by contact-time ( t ) in minutes (C t ) [ 34 , 35 ].…”

“…Ozon dapat digunakan dalam bentuk gas atau dilarutkan dalam air dan keberadaan air dapat meningkatkan reaktivitas dari ozon. 19 Penggunaan ozon dalam prosedur asepsis pada praktik dokter gigi khususnya di Indonesia, belum pernah dilakukan. Hal ini dapat disebabkan karena minimnya ketersediaan generator ozon di Indonesia.…”
