The Influence of Different Concentrations of a Natural Clay Material as Active Principle in Cosmetic Formulations

Abstract: The clay minerals have characteristics and properties that allow their applicability in the cosmetic area, being incorporated into formulations as an active principle. Therefore, the aim of this work is characterizing and evaluating the influence of a clay from Miracema do Norte, Tocantins, Brazil, named Clay V, on the physicochemical characteristics of a hydrophilic gel of Aristoflex  , a copolymer of the neutralized acryloyldimethyltaurate and vinylpyrrolidone sulphonic acid. Clay V was decontaminated and c… Show more

“…Photosensitizers immobilized within a polymer matrix were used to obtain and utilize an antimicrobial photoactive material. As a polymer, the ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate copolymer (AVC), being a rheology modifier widely used in pharmacology and dermatology, was applied [ 34 , 35 , 36 ]. The modifier is a copolymer that consists of acrylamido-2,2-dimethylpropanesulfonic acid and vinylpyrrolidone, with an alternating arrangement within the macromolecule.…”

“…The aim of this work was to provide an effective formulation strategy for enhanced skin retention of a highly lipophilic molecule, such as hesperetin, to have the potential to provide topical formulations for the skin. In that context, a hyaluronic emulgel could be the ideal vehicle, as an emulsion allows for the incorporation of hydrophilic/lipophilic substances due to its biphasic nature, and hyaluronic acid permits the retention of active substances longer on the skin, prolonging their action [32]. Additionally, semi-solid formulations prepared using this polymer are characterized by excellent sensory and rheological properties and have shown excellent qualities as wound-healing formulations [33,34].…”

“…According to Daneluz and co-workers (2020), in general, clay minerals contain Si, Al, Fe, Ti, Mg, Ca, K, Na, phyllosilicates, oxides, carbonates, kaolinite, chlorides etc. According to the authors, these elements are important for Cosmetology due to their effect on skinexamples: hematite (Fe2O3) acts as pigment, opacifier, antiseptic and stimulates cell renewal; rutile (TiO2) provides photoprotection; kaolinite provide reconstruction of skin tissues, hydration, and soothing effect; and ZnO and MgO are invigorating [18].…”

“…As actives, they are widely used for skin cleansing, oil reduction/control (skin and scalp), substance adsorption, antiaging, ultraviolet (UV) radiation protection (sunscreens), and ion exchange with skin, due to their color, qualitative and quantitative mineralogical composition, particle size and shape, structure, and ion exchange capacity. They can also be used in makeup products [2,[15][16][17][18].…”
