Manufacturing and Characterization of Jute/PP Thermoplastic Commingled Composite

Abstract: The commingled technology is a promising technique for the manufacture of composites reinforced with natural fibers. This study presents the development, processing and basic characterization of a long fiber Jute/Polypropylene (Jute/PP) commingled composite. The Jute/PP fabric was produced in a handloom and the composite was consolidated by compression molding. The PP matrix was chemically and thermally characterized to certify its chemical composition and define its melting and crystallization temperatures. T… Show more

“…Studies regarding the properties and applications of composite materials obtained using hemp fibres as reinforcing agents and various matrices, such as polyethylene [ 23 , 24 , 25 ], cement [ 26 , 27 ], polyurethane [ 28 ], polylactic acid [ 29 ] and polypropylene [ 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 , 36 ], are presented in the literature. Different authors have highlighted compression molding, extrusion, and injection molding as technologies suitable for processing the composites [ 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 ].…”

“…The bands at 2950 cm -1 , 2917 cm -1 , 2868 cm -1 , 2837 cm -1 are assigned to the CH2 asymmetrical stretching vibration, CH3 asymmetrical stretching vibration, CH3 symmetrical stretching vibration and symmetrical CH2 stretching vibration, respectively. The bands at 1456 cm -1 and 1375 cm -1 are attributed to the deformation vibration asymmetrical and deformation vibration symmetrical of the CH3 (Souza et al, 2017). These bands suffer an increase of the intensity during the exposure.…”
