Creep Fracture Mechanisms and Maps in Aisi Type 316 Austenitic Stainless Steels from Distinct Origins

Abstract: Two distinct AISI type 316 stainless steels, of Brazilian and Swedish origins, were compared regarding their creep fracture mechanisms at 600, 700 and 800°C. The possible mechanisms associated with the creep fracture strength were identified by means of fracture maps proposed either by Ashby and collaborators or by Miller and Langdon. Experimental creep results were consistent with the general Ashby and collaborators map for face centered cubic alloys. By contrast, the two different 316 steel displayed signifi… Show more

“…parameters using a non-textured or plain cutting tool and the values of responses found are R a -4.526 μm and MRR-105 187 mm 3 min −1 . Since, it is known that the values of MRR as obtained using equation (1), which is same in case of both, textured and plain tools. Therefore, to assess cutting tool (textured and non-textured) performances, machining parameter combinations for maximum and minimum roughness at run numbers 22 and 24 respectively have been considered to make further comparison.…”

“…There are different grades of stainless steel used to fulfil specific application requirements. Austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel SS316 is a prime candidate material for heat exchangers, furnace parts, jetengine parts, and chemical processing and pharmaceutical equipment etc [1,2]. Excellent toughness, superior strength, and high corrosion resistance etc are the special characteristics of SS 316.…”
