Prediction of Mechanical Properties of AlSi13Cu2Fe Alloy Using the ATND Methods

Abstract: The present paper describes an experimental testing method connected with use of the thermal-voltage-derivative analysis (the ATND method in short) to crystallization recording of the AlSi13Cu2Fe eutectic alloy in aspects of possible prediction of its mechanical properties, basing on dependencies obtained from regression analysis, performed on the basis of temperature and voltage values of characteristic points seen on curves from the ATND method. Results of the experiment have demonstrated a significant relat… Show more

“…The microstructure was modelled, including imperfections and related mechanical properties depending on the local cooling rate. Pezda [19] used thermal-voltage-derivative analysis (the ATND method) to predict the mechanical properties of supereutectic silumin, which was related to the crystallization conditions of the casting cooling. From the above mentioned, it is clear that although modelling is used in this field, it deals mainly with casting conditions.…”

“…Then, the mold intended for the production of test pieces was filled with refined and modified alloy. The mold was produced in compliance with the PN-88/H-88002 standard [ 40 ]. The output cast cylindrical test piece had a diameter of 16 mm and a length of 160 mm.…”

“…The investigated alloy was poured into metallic mould, heated-up to temperature 250 o C. The mould was adapted to recording of crystallization processes using the TVDA method [22]. Block diagram of the measuring stand is presented in Fig.…”

“…Thermal analysis belongs to the most often used methods to monitoring solidification processes the alloys. Except thermal analysis, TDA [15,16], DTA and DSC [16][17][18][19], TDA-EDA [20,21] and TVDA [21][22][23] methods can be used in course of the investigations. The TVDA method consists in continuous, simultaneous measurement of temperature and electric voltage arisen on probes during crystallization and phase transformations of solidifying alloy.…”
