Design and Experiment of Self-Propelled System for Paddy Field Weeder Based on the Interaction Mechanism of Wheel-Soil

Abstract: Aiming at the low mechanization of paddy field weeding and lack of dedicated agricultural machinery for paddy field weeding in China, a self-propelled system of paddy field weeding machine was designed. The overall structure and working principle of self-propelled system were illustrated and analyzed. The interaction mechanism of wheel-soil during weeding was analyzed. The wheel-soil interaction model was established, then, wheel traction and surface flatness were selected as the evaluation indexes for discret… Show more

“…The team has developed a paddy-field inter-row weeder ( Figure 1 ) that typically contains rake-tooth weeding wheels, a frame, front and rear vehicle wheels, a hoeing-depth-adjustment device, and related accessories ( Tian et al., 2022 ). The most important working part is the inter-row weeding device, installed in front of the driver’s seat between the front and rear wheels of the weeding machine.…”

“…In the field of agricultural machinery, Liang Tian established an interaction model between weeder wheels and paddy soil. Additionally, he conducted discrete element simulation and field experiments, and the results showed that the wheel could meet the requirements of a paddy field [17]. Zhewu Chen proposed a new type of curved-rim wheel suitable for paddy fields in which finite elements were used to simulate the interaction between the wheel and soil for wheel improvement design.…”

“…Research has shown that weed control in paddy fields during the tillering stage not only achieves the highest weed removal rates but also attains optimal economic efficiency [ 4 , 5 ]. Thus, early weed control and removal are essential [ 6 ].…”

“…Various mechanical weed control methods have been developed, including the weeding turtle robot designed by Nakamura et al [ 19 ]. Tian et al designed a self-propelled paddy field weeding machine and conducted dynamic modeling research on the interaction between the walking wheel and soil, providing support for the motion model of the paddy field walking chassis [ 6 ]. Tang et al designed a weeding wheel with rake teeth to bury the weeds between the rice rows [ 20 ].…”
