Chemical Agents and Shading Levels for the Production of Pepper Seedlings

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate protected cultivation environments with different levels of shading and application of foliar chemical agents, on growth, photosynthetic pigments and seedling quality of Capsicum frutensens L. The experiment was developed at the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul, University Unit of Cassilândia, with chili pepper. Three cultivation environments (screen of 18, 35 and 50% of shading) and six leaf chemical agents were used [(1) controlwithout application; (2) Nitrogen (N)… Show more

“…The highest SD values were observed in seedlings produced in the agricultural greenhouse from 45 to 90 DAT (Figure 5), not corroborating with Costa et al (2017), who found no differences in the diameter of seedlings of this cultivar in an agricultural greenhouse, 50% shading aluminized screen, and 50% shading black screen. However, Binotti et al (2018) found larger diameters in seedlings produced under 18 and 35% shading compared to 50% shading in treatment without a chemical agent. FIGURE 4.…”

“…Para a produção de mudas com aspectos morfológicos e fisiológicos desejáveis, recomenda-se a aplicação foliar de paclobutrazol + nitrogênio em ambiente com 50% de sombreamento. Binotti et al (2018), https://doi.org/10.1590/1809-4430-eng.agric. v38n4p450-456/2018…”

“…Seedling quality can also be altered by manipulating plant architecture using growth regulators or inhibitors, and plant growth must maintain adequate proportions (Benett et al, 2014;Binotti et al, 2019;Matos et al, 2020). Seedlings that present the shoot very developed in comparison with the root system are considered fragile and may present a high mortality rate in the field.…”
