Show more

“…The pitaya seeds were extracted manually from the ripe fruits of better appearance as color, size and brightness. The pulp mucilage adhered to the seeds was removed using a 2-mm steel sieve in running water using lime until the seeds were completely cleaned, adapted according to the method proposed by Gentil and Ferreira (2000). The seeds were then distributed in a plastic container and left at room temperature for drying.…”

“…Ripe fruits of E. stipitata were collected at the beginning (November; Lot 1) and towards the end of the rainy season (May; Lot 2) from an experimental plantation at the INPA Campus III in Manaus. Seeds were manually isolated from the fruits and cleaned by friction with moist sand, followed by rinsing under running tap water (Gentil and Ferreira, 2000). Only seeds with a diameter ≥10 mm were used for the studies, which began within 24 h after processing.…”

“…Average annual temperature is 26°C, with daily temperature cycles between 19°C and 39°C (Brasil 1978). Immediately after fruit collection, the seeds were manually separated from the fruits and cleaned by friction with moist sand, followed by rinsing under running tap water (Gentil & Ferreira 2000). After processing, the seed lot was used for experiments within about 24 h.…”
