Show more

“…Neochinorhynchus pterodoridis collected from A. falcatus and A. falcirostris is an acanthocephalan species that was described originally from Pterodoras granulosus Humboldt and Valenciennes 1821, a siluriform Doradidae (THATCHER, 1981). For the two host populations studied here, the structure of the component community was constituted especially by species of generalist parasites, with a direct or indirect life cycle.…”

“…A total of 146 parasites were collected, such as P. (S) inopinatus (Camallanidae: Nematoda), Contracaecum sp. larvae (Anisakidae: Nematoda) and Neoechinorhynchus pterodoridis Thatcher, 1981 (Neoechinorhynchidae: Acanthocephala) collected from the intestine. However, the dominance was of P. (S) inopinatus (Table 1).…”

“…Neoechinorhynchus pimelodi differs from N. paraguayensis Machado Filho, 1959, originally collected from a "pei xe-martin" (specific name ofthe host was not stated by the author) from the Rio Paraguay and from Geophagus brasiliensis from the Guandu-Açu River, Rio de Janeiro, by NrCKOL & PADlLHA (1979), and from N. pterodoridis Thatcher, 1981 from Pterodoras granulosus (Valenciennes) from the Amazon River, Manaus, especially by smaller size and greater width of the eggs (l8x14) compared to the eggs ofthese two species (29x12 and 24-27x7-9, respectively). Selected eggs of N. pimelodi present concentric layers of fine texture involving the acanthor, while those ofN.…”
