Preliminary results of leaf litter-decomposing microfungi survey

Abstract: As part of an OEA-sponsored collaboration with Dr Rolf Singer. I have been collecting microfungl from decomposing Dicotyledonous leaf litter. Eight collections were ma de from four Terra Firme communities. tree collections from an Igapó, and two each from Campinarana and Varzea communities. In addition, there was a collection ot permamently subme rged litter from Tarumãzinho . Each collection contained approximately 300 fungai isolates. In this preliminary survey 4,500 fungi were isolated . There were more tha… Show more

“…It was subsequently recorded from tea plantation soils (Agnihothrudu 1962) and from leaf litter in Tanzania (Pirozynski 1972). An unidentified species of Thozetella was reported from the litter of Japanese fir needles (Aoki & Tokumasu 1995) and from dicotyledonous leaf litter in Brazil (Katz 1981). Agnihothrudu (1958) originally placed this fungus in a new genus Thozetellopsis, however Pirozynski & Hodges (1973) considered Thozetellopsis to be congeneric with Thozetella and transferred the name accordingly.…”
