Evaluation of color stability of different temporary restorative materials

Show more

“…It is important to select a temporary material with greater color stability and resistance to different pigmenting liquids to which they are subjected, with the purpose of optimizing the esthetics of the restorations made. Even during the time when temporary restorations are being present in the mouth, esthetics is important [1] . Discoloration of temporary materials for fixed prosthodontics ay result in patient dissatisfaction and additional expense for replacement.…”

“…[15] The need for a design protocol of polishing is required because there is no consensus regarding time and color stability after polishing. [7,16] Most studies [11,12] recommended the diamond polishing paste with a goat hairbrush on a constant rotation of 18,000 rpm for 1 min. Şen, [12] in 2002, recommended polishing at a rotational speed of 5000 rpm for 30 s with rag wheels [12] and a moist muslin wheel for 2 min.…”

“…Discoloration in the provisional restorations that have been used for very long in the anterior region, where aesthetics is of paramount importance, is known to adversely affect both quality of the restoration and patient satisfaction (8). Provisional restorative materials to be used should possess colour stability and resistance to discoloration in the oral cavity as far as diverse drinks and teeth-cleansing solutions are concerned (9, 10). Today, polyvinyl methacrylate, urethane dimethacrylate, polymethyl methacrylate, polyethylene methacrylate, Bis-acrylic resin and resin composites are used as temporary restorative materials.…”

“…Acrylic resin restorations that are polymerised with heat are widely preferred due to their high resistance and durability merits (13). However, Bis-acrylic resins are increasingly used due to such properties as being practical, having minimal polymerization shrinkage and low exothermic reaction apart from providing remarkably satisfactory aesthetic results (10).…”
