Para o produtor de melancia em Rondônia ainda há algumas dúvidas quanto a escolha das sementes e mesmo para aqueles que preferem trabalhar com certa cultivar parecem não estarem totalmente decididos quanto a escolha de uma segunda opção, caso a primeira não esteja disponível no mercado. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar as cinco principais cultivares disponíveis no comércio de Rondônia (Colt, Rochedo, Riverside, Magnum e Red Haevan), sendo desenvolvido em Alto Alegre dos Parecis – RO, no período de janeiro a março de 2023, em um Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo distrófico, em delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Destaque significativo quanto a produção total e número de frutos comercial (a partir de oito quilos) ocorreu para Red Haeven (57,3 t ha-1 e 3.888 frutos ha-1) e Riverside (53,1 t ha-1 e 3.777 frutos ha-1). Quanto ao teor de sólidos solúveis as cultivares Red Haeven, Riverside e Magnum foram estatisticamente superiores a Colt e Rochedo. Contudo, essas duas últimas geraram leituras superiores a 10º Brix, considerado padrão mínimo de doçura em termos comerciais. Red Haevan e Riverside, foram as mais produtivas em frutos comerciais, também foram as que produziram as maiores quantidades, em massa, de frutos não comerciais, atingindo 18,2 e 15,6 t ha-1, respectivamente. Considerando o custo de produção por hectare e os preços praticados atualmente no comércio de Rondônia indicam-se, após as avaliações de características quantitativas e qualitativas como maneira de possibilitar opções de escolha ao produtor, as cultivares Red Haeven e Riverside para plantio comercial.
