Relationship between biospeckle laser technique and firmness of Acrocomia aculeata fruits

Abstract: A B S T R A C TKnowing the maturation of the Acrocomia aculeata (macaw palm) fruit is decisive for harvest to be performed when the fruit has a higher content and quality of oil. There are different approaches to monitor maturation and they can be classified as destructive and non-destructive. Variables obtained by optical instruments have been used to determine maturation stage. The present study evaluated the relationship between the biological activity measured by the optical technique of biospeckle laser a… Show more

“…Texture values reduced in all treatments during the 60 days of storage with less reduction in fruits stored under refrigeration conditions. The storage temperature of fruits is a factor that influences pulp softening (COSTA et al, 2017) and under refrigeration, fruits present less texture reduction when compared to storage under ambient conditions, corroborating results of the present work.…”

“…The mechanical properties of the fruit-rachilla system of A. aculeata have been explored for developing harvesting machines based on mechanical vibration (Grupioni et al 2018(Grupioni et al , 2020Velloso et al 2017;Villar et al 2017). Methods of monitoring fruit maturity include optical analysis using the biospeckle laser technique and image processing, which assesses features such as fruit volume and color (Costa et al 2016(Costa et al , 2017(Costa et al , 2018c.…”

“…The variation of the physico-chemical variables (Table 1) showed that fruit pulp firmness was the most affected variable by the tomato maturation stages. Firmness is a physical attribute that present inverse correlation to fruit maturation (Costa et al, 2017). According to Ferreira et al (2010), the closer to the physiological maturation, the lower the pulp firmness, due to solubilization of substances of the cell walls by the action of enzymes whose activities increased along with the development of fruits.…”
