New combinations and lectotype fixations for Dolichocodia Townsend, 1908 (Diptera, Tachinidae) with the first species key

Abstract: Two new combinations are suggested for this genus: D. errans (Curran, 1927) comb. nov., and D. praeusta (van der Wulp, 1891) comb. nov. Redescriptions and lectotype designations for D. rava and D. praeusta are given. An identification key to Dolichocodia species is presented. Dolichocodia rava, described from Mexico, is newly recorded from United States.

“…The Dexiini from the less diverse regions are better studied, for example, Mesnil (1980) for the Palearctic Region and Barraclough (1992) for the Australasian Region, and there are taxonomic discussions and new placements in regional catalogues, for example, for the Oriental Region by Crosskey (1976) and the Afrotropical Region by O'Hara and Cerretti (2016). In contrast, the Neotropical fauna of Dexiini was only catalogued by Guimarães (1971); in this outdated and obsolete classification, the members of this tribe were distributed according to Townsend's classification scheme, meaning that the taxonomic status of these dexiines are far from satisfactory (for a fuller explanation, see O'Hara 2013 and Santis 2020). As a plain example, the former tribes Prosenini, Theresiini, Trichodurini, Trixodini and Zeliini, all proposed by Townsend, are now considered invalid and synonymous with Dexiini (O'Hara & Wood 2004; O'Hara et al .…”
