Abstract: OBJECTIVE:The metabolic syndrome involves both metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors and is associated with cardiovascular mortality. Epicardial fat tissue plays a crucial role in deleterious effects of metabolic syndrome on the heart, including myocardial fibrosis.
