“…Dessa forma, as hernioplastias, que só são realizadas no contexto de emergência quando não é possível a redução manual do conteúdo herniado 4 , foram reagendadas para um momento mais oportuno da pandemia. Contudo, o atraso na realização de uma cirurgia eletiva pode trazer sérios riscos para o paciente [7][8][9] , podendo levar a possíveis complicações da doença 9 . Isso torna a cirurgia um procedimento mais complexo e de maior risco como, por exemplo, a operação de emergência para hérnia inguinal encarcerada, a qual possui maior taxa de morbidade e mortalidade quando comparadas ao procedimento feito de forma eletiva, sem encarceramento 6,10 Na região Nordeste a taxa de mortalidade foi de 0,12 para 0,36 (aumento de 200%), no Sudeste de 0,10 para 0,29 (aumento de 190,0%), no Norte de 0,10 para 0,13 (aumento de 30,0%), e no Sul a taxa de mortalidade se manteve muito próxima do ano anterior, que foi em torno de 0,12.…”
