Effects of Origanum Syriacum Essential Oil on Blood Parameters of Broilers Reared at High Ambient Heat

Abstract: The biochemical and hematological blood values of broilers fed under heat stress and that were administered Origanum syriacum (OS) essential oil were investigated in this study. In total, 400 male broilers (Ross-308; age, 1 day) were used for the period of 42-days of the study. The experiment included ten groups (n = 50/group; each group divided into five sub-groups): normal heat,

“…The findings of this study established the important role of EOs in controlling the liver function, which is consistent with the results of Tekce and Gül (2017) who stated that the addition of a natural plant such as Origanum syriacum that contains carvacrol and thymol in the chicken diet reduced liver enzyme (ALT and AST) levels compared with the control group. Sharma et al.…”

“…In another study, a higher value of troponin-T was determined as a result of stress caused by temperature differences (Maxwell, 1994;Maxwell et al, 1995;Maxwell et al, 1997;Aksit et al, 2008). A similar study on broilers showed that heat stress had a negative effect on specific myofibrillar fragments, which affected the level of troponin (Santos et al, 2008), heat stress applied to broiler stress and heart values have been determined to increase (Tekce & Gül, 2017). In our study, levels of cTnI were higherin the EOMtreated groups than in the control group, in groups not exposed to temperature stress (22ºC).…”

“…eRBCA-2019-1119 exposed to temperature stress (36 OC), WBC, HGB, HCT, RDW-SD and LMYPH decreased compared to the control group, increased compared to MCH, MCHC, neut and IG, but had no effect on CK, creatine, RBC, RDW-CD, mono, EO and Baso (p<0.05). While some of the studies that we have been in compliance within the literature (Demir et al, 2008;Toghyani et al, 2010;Hong et al, 2012;Tekce & Gül, 2017), some literature information are incompatible with the data (Nezhad & Shahryar, 2011;Mahmoud et al, 2013). Discrepancies in study results are likely attributed to the manner of joining broiler rations, the dosages, and the difference in the contents of the EOM.…”

“…Heat stress, for example, causes dire economic losses in poultry. The O. syriacum EO showed some protective effects against heat stress in broilers, [253] while dietary supplementation with Origanum vulgare EO may be superior in alleviating the negative effects of transportation on pigs by improving the pigs' antioxidant status in a comparison study with dietary supplementation of vitamin E. [264] The administration of EO in the diet is becoming an interesting tool also in aquaculture, with the aim of exploiting above all the antimicrobial activity of these phytocomplexes. O. majorana EO and its nanocapsules were evaluated recently for their antibacterial activity in silver catfish, Rhamdia quelen, infected with Aeromonas hydrophila.…”
