Beam-Column Joints Reinforcement Detailing Adequacy in Case of a Corner Column Loss-Numerical Analysis

Abstract: This study investigates the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column joints at the corner panel after a ground corner column loss scenario. The ductility of a frame is dependent on the ductility of its components, particularly its joints. Deficiency in joints performance can be related to an unexpected event. For example, the removal of a ground corner column turns the joint above into an inverted knee joint, and also inverses the direction of the resulted bending moments in the adjacent exterior and i… Show more

“…Example distributions of cracks and failure forms are presented in the works of Johansson [ 13 ] and Starosolski [ 14 ]. Some recent results concerning reinforced concrete corners are presented in the works of Marzec [ 15 ], Wang [ 16 ], Berglund and Holström [ 17 ], Getachew [ 18 ], Haris and Roszevak [ 19 ], Abdelwahed [ 20 ], and Abdelwahed et al [ 21 ]. They describe laboratory tests, strut-and-tie method approaches, and numerical simulations in various FEM software (e.g., Athena, VecTor2, LS-Dyna).…”

“…The analysis generally provides the load carrying ability and also the displacement at the highest lateral load and interstory drift index at any floor level of RC frames. The way the reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column joints function at the corner panel was examined by Abdelwahed (2019). In this study, the impact of deficiency in joints performance is numerically examined using distinct modeling methods, taking into account both seismic and non-seismic reinforcement details.…”
