Polyester Pinning Effect on Flexural and Vibrational Characteristics of Foam Filled Honeycomb Sandwich Panels

Abstract: Polyester pins are incorporated in polyurethane foam filled honeycomb core sandwich panel to increase the interfacial strength between the faces and core in order to improve the performance of sandwich structures. Foam filled Honeycomb Sandwich panel (FHS) and Pin incorporated Foam filled Honeycomb sandwich panels (PFHS) were developed. The developed sandwich panels are tested for flexural and vibration characteristics. The influence of strain rates on flexural behaviour of sandwich panels were also evaluate… Show more

“…All the composites manufactured showed better flexural strength which attributed with the glass fiber content in them. 22,28 Also, the flexural strength of the composites with waste nylon reinforcement is higher than their analogues which is due to the better flexibility of nylon fibers. 22,23 As the number of fishing net layers increased, the values also are more pronounced as shown from the bar chart in Figure 4.…”

“…Excess resin is collected at the outlet tank and care is taken for the resin, not to be infiltrated into the vacuum pump. Curing was done at clamping pressure of 0.6 bar at room temperature of 26 C. 28,29 The hybrid sheet, after complete curing, was then removed from the acrylic sheets easily with the aid of the releasing agent. A simple 3-D model of hybrid 1 is shown in Figure 1.…”

“…Also, numeric simulations were carried out to evaluate the stress distributions in the specimen components as well as bearing mechanism of the connections. In addition, Jayaram et al [57] studied incorporating polyester pins in a polyurethane foam-filled honeycomb core composite panel to increase the interfacial strength between the faces and core (Figure 14). The effect of strain rates on bending performance of composite panels was also evaluated.…”

“…They discussed the influence of the panel thickness, through-thickness fibre configuration and density, and other parameters on the tension, compression, flexure and shear behaviour, deeply.
