Investigation on the optimal simplified model of BIW structure using FEM

Abstract: At conceptual phases of designing a vehicle, engineers need simplified models to examine the structural and functional characteristics and apply custom modifications for achieving the best vehicle design. Using detailed finite-element (FE) model of the vehicle at early steps can be very conducive; however, the drawbacks of being excessively time-consuming and expensive are encountered. This leads engineers to utilize trade-off simplified models of bodyin-white (BIW), composed of only the most decisive structur… Show more

“…As the final step in administration of controlled release formulations, injection of microparticles could be a major hurdle toward clinical translation of microparticle-based (bio)pharmaceutical products (12). Numerical models coupled with statistical approaches have been widely implemented in design optimization of various engineering systems (24)(25)(26) and, more recently, used for biomedical applications (27)(28)(29)(30)(31)(32)(33)(34). The used modeling approach of the clog formation criterion provided a novel method to address the barrier in current numerical software for simulation of adhesion of solid bodies, which could lead to numerical instabilities in conventional finite element software.…”

“…For instance, Young et al 13 propose that conjoin two engineering modes (model-oriented and product line) to achieve the less indefinite and more reliable analysis, hence reducing mistakes and re-configure in the process of automotive systems engineering. To reach the best structural and functional characteristics in vehicle design, Shojaeefard et al 14 consider a sedan is simplified by four various simplified conjoined models with FE approach, each of which tests the accuracy of the range of simplification from various perspectives. Ma et al 15 present a simulated model with numerical analysis approaches for evaluating the fluid-structure interaction behavior to forecast the happening of structural object under specific fluid.…”

“…Shojaeefard et al applied a simplified model to establish the connection between beam and surface elements. This model brings the simplicity of predicting the body safety attributes [20]. Izanloo et al proposed a simplified model of body-in-prime, and a hybrid optimization method of Taguchi grey relational analysis, non-dominated sorting, and decision-making was implemented to optimize the joints [21].…”
